A blog about Cowboy Music, Western Swing and Cowboy Poetry. 2014 WMA Radio DJ/Radio Program of the Year

Open Range

As I write, I’m listening to Open Range’s “Yellowstone Winds” CD. What a talented couple…and just nice folks! Ric Steinke and Linda Hausler have won several awards in the past few years, the latest one being the Best Harmony Award at the WMA Showcase and Awards show last fall and no wonder!

Open Range

On Yellowstone Winds, “Get On That Horse & Ride,” ”Long Distance Love,” “Partners For Life,” “Crow Fair,” “It’s Too Late” and “Ol’ Cowboy” were all written by Ric Steinke.  The rest were written by pretty talented folks as well…like Ian Tyson to drop one name you might recognize. It’s a wonderful CD to listen to.  With the great voices and harmony and super selection of songs it’s truly entertaining!

Since I’m also a Western Swing fan I love “Swingtime In The Rockies!”  And Ric wrote every song but one (written by Nancy Thorwardson) on the whole CD!  It’s a super CD!  I like every song.  My favorite is “Roundup Time On The Rio Grande” but probably because the Rio Grande is pretty close to home.  LOL!  This CD is very well known to “The Real West from the Old West” listeners!

If you are in the vicinity, Ric and Linda will be in Deming for a house concert,  April 29th at 6:00 pm at Luna Rossa Winery!  Come on out and join us! Bring friends! You’ll have a great time and will be truly entertained!  I’m really looking forward to seeing them and getting to listen to them again!
