Tyrone 2nd Annual Cowboy and Western Music Gathering
The 3rd Annual Tyrone Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering
It was indeed a treat to attend the 3rd Annual Tyrone Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering in Tyrone, NM April 24. Pete and Dianne Kennedy seemed to have everything running like clockwork when we arrived. The headliners for the show were Jim Jones (singer, song writer and author from Corrales, NM); Randy Huston who was accompanied on stage by his daughter Hannah (be prepared for great things from her in a couple of years) from Las Vegas, NM; Diane Tribitt, rancher and cowboy poet from MN and Way Out West, a great trio from Tucson, AZ who sang traditional western music as well as songs of their own. I probably don’t need to expound on any of this talent as they are so well known and appreciated. Paul Harris was there sporting a NEW HAT! The hat may have received more attention than his great music or poetry…but it was fun! He finally had to bring the old one out to prove he was the real Paul Harris.
Folks I met for the first time were Bud Strom, cowboy poet, retired Brig. Gen. and rancher from Hereford, AZ. What an honor it was to meet him. And he does a mighty fine job as a poet as well! Dean Foster is a 5th generation rancher in the southwest corner of NM and entertains beautifully singing songs about ranch life. Cindy Rae from Willcox, AZ has a perfect voice for traditional county music. She was a treat.
Lee Anderson met us outside the front door, horseback and dressed in authentic cowboy clothing from the turn of the last century. He’s quite a story teller and educates his audience dressed in the attire appropriate to the era. I’m sure when he is making school appearances; he has those kids in the palm of his hand.
Acting as both cowboy poet or singer and emcee were Pete Kennedy, Mike Moutoux and Ken Whitecotton.
Congratulations to all who had a part in this gathering. It was well organized, well attended and had talented entertainers. I’ll be attending again next year!

James Michael appeared at a "house concert" at the Luna Rossa Winery Saturday, March 17 in Deming NM. The event was sponsored by Totsie Slover and The Real West from the Old West. The event was well attended and enjoyed by all. Luna Rossa Winery did an excellent job with the facility and the refreshments. Be on the lookout for information for James Michael's next performance in Deming.

Compadres A Cowboy Story
It was my pleasure to interview Paul Pumpian, author of "Compadres, A Cowboy Story," on July 22. To hear the interview you can log onto
http://demingradio.com and click on link located in The Real West paragraph. The interview was fun and the book was a great read! The story is about two young boys who grow up together and became true compadres. Then it goes into experiences they share as young men. The book is interesting and fast moving and covers: relationships, cowboy stories, steamy love scenes, frightening war stories, jail experiences.... It's all covered.
Paul Pumpian has an incredible history of writing and brings his great writing style into this novel. You will also learn a lot about Mexican and Southwest History during the Pancho Villa era, including the raid on Columbus, NM.
Paul has also be involved with horses for many years and his New Mexico connection came from showing horses at an Albuquerque Horse Show. He also donated a horse to the Imus Ranch.

Eddy Harrison performed last night (July 18, 2009) at Rockhound State Park just south of Deming. It was outdoors so it was warm, but there was a breeze to keep us comfortable. The attendance was great and everyone enjoyed Eddy's music. It's great to have talented Western artists come to our small town! I am hoping to have Eddy on "The Real West from the Old West" soon. We are shooting for the first week of August.
Call of the West performed at the L.C.R.O.A. April 4 the and I was happy to be in the audiance. They are so good! And we had a nice visit. It was good to see you Jeanne and Jerome. Come back to Deming again.
